How did you get into costume designing?
"I studied art in school, and began costume in my late 20's when I moved to New York. I had worked in fashion and luckily met someone by chance that gave me a break when someone in their department didn't show up for work. I became the PA in art department and moved into little costuming jobs within a couple years."
What processes do you go through to create such amazing costumes?
"I dream a lot inside my head, use art, fabric and the scripts to get ideas going on."
How has the industry changed over the years?
"I think the media is so fast now, people see the same things, so there's bound to be inspiration being cross-pollinated."
Who is your favourite designer?
"I don't have one per se, there a so many amazing talents."
How do you decide on a look for specific characters and actors, Kristen Stewart, for example?
"The first concept comes from the script, which is the story we all work on together, that and the director's take of the story are the starting points."
Which celebrity would you like to design for now?
"I design for actors, and stories, not celebrities."
If you could design for any film, in the history of film, what would it be?
"How about one that hasn't been made? An original wonderful tale set in 15th century would be great."
